4 killed in Basilan ambush

Three militiamen and a member of Al-Qaeda-linked military group Abu Sayyaf were killed in a clash in Basilan province on Thursday.


Abu Sayyaf militants ambushed a truck carrying the police aides on patrol at Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Integrated Development Cooperative Inc. in Sumisip, Basilan island at around 5:45 a.m., said Basilan Police Provincial Office (BPPO).


Police said the militiamen were conducting patrol at the plantation when a group of Abu Sayyaf bandits ambushed them.


Slain militiamen were identified as Nolmer Lumbos, Nusaman Hatulla and Hasan Manjapal. The slain bandit was only identified as a certain Bakrim, a follower of Nadzmir Janatul, who is an associate of Abu Sayyaf leader Furuiji Indama, said police.
