Alfredo Lim, Edgardo Pamintuan, Sara Duterte among World Mayor Prize 2012 candidates

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio are among the candidates for this year's World Mayor Prize, a biennial event that honors city mayors who have served their communities well and who have contributed to the well-being of cities, nationally and internationally.

"The Prize is awarded every two years to a mayor who has made outstanding contributions to his / her community and has developed a vision for urban living and working that is relevant to towns and cities across the world.", World Mayor said in its website.

88 mayors from all over the world have been nominated as of this month. 19 are from Asia. Nominations will be accepted until mid-May. Winners will be announced in December.

"While it is up to the constituents of a mayor to judge his / her achievements, the City Mayors Foundation is seeking candidates who are at least in their second term of office. Anyone wishing to nominate a mayor is also asked to consider whether his / her nominee is likely to agree to the City Mayors Code of Ethics, as mayors wishing to be considered for the World Mayor Prize will be asked to sign up to the Code.", the site said.

Then Marikina City mayor Marides Fernando ranked 7th in 2008; ex-Makati mayor and now vice-president Jejomar Binay ranked 4th in 2006; and incumbent San Fernando, Pampanga mayor Oscar Rodriguez also ranked 4th in 2005.
