The hashtag #CharicePempengcoSexTape trended at number 1 on Twitter Philippines earlier today. Did it really mean worldwide singing sensation Charice has a sex tape?
No, not actually. On DJ Mo's (Mohan Gumatay in real life) radio program "GoodTimes" in Magic 89.9, he, along with co-DJ's Tin Gamboa and Mia Bayuga, insinuated the hashtag to just start a joke (and probably to compete with the other morning shows in radio).
Charice, upon learning of it, sent tweets to Mo: "Too bad. Remember, you interviewed me? I thought you were nice. anyway, I should talk to you FACE TO FACE. :)" and saying he was "unbelievable." The singer even tweeted Mo, hoping he has a good lawyer, and wanted to meet the DJ tomorrow for her birthday. "It's my birthday tomorrow.. I just can't wait to go back to the Philippines. @djmotwister see ya ;)"
Mo Twister apologized
Mo Twister has apologized to Charice via a series of tweets.
"I want to take the opportunity to apologize to Charice for a stupid & cruel joke on our show today. We attempted to be funny at her expense and, in the process, hurt her feelings."
"On behalf of @suzy899 (Tin Gamboa) and@mia899 (Mia Bayuga), we apologize to Charice for our stupid behavior and immature attempt to generate laughs," he added. "You have worked so very hard, not just for yourself and your family, but to put our country in a positive light, to promote immense Filipino talent, and you have done that successfully. We are proud of you and we are embarrassed because we failed to support that."
Magic 89.9 has suspended the DJs for two weeks without pay as a punishment for their actions. An apology will be given to Charice tomorrow on their show.
Here is their management's official statement:
"The Management of Today's Best Music Magic 89.9 does not condone what happened this morning, May 9, 2012 on the said GoodTimes. As a joke, the 3 DJs started an objectionable hastag about Charice Pempengco ono Twitter. An apology to Ms. Pempengco shall be made tomorrow morning May 10, 2012 on the said Radio Show. Furthermore, as self regulation, The DJs involved shall be suspended from boardwork for Two Weeks without pay as consequences for their actions."
