Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire team up in 'The Great Gatsby'

We know them as Dom Cobb in the 2008 hit "Inception" and Peter Parker in the blockbuster series of "Spider-Man". Now Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, who have been close friends (per se, BFF) since they were kids, teamed up for a film that evolves in America's prosperous period.

"The Great Gatsby" is a romantic drama film adaptation of  F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name. Leonardo will play the role of Jay Gatsby, while Tobey will do Nick Carraway.  The lead actress? She's Carey Mulligan, an English actress who recently appeared in British drama film "Shame."

The film is set in the 1920s, during a prosperous time in American history. After fully recovering from the First World War (1914-1918), America's economy soared high. However, alcohol manufacturing and selling was banned, and as a result, some people became millionaires out of rum-running, or the illegal smuggling of alcoholic beverages.

Just so you know, Leonardo, 37, and Tobey, 36, when they were much younger, have appeared in the films "Don's Plum" (1995) and "This Boy's Life" (1993).

"The Great Gatsby" is expected to be relased on Christmas Day. It is directed by Baz Luhrmann, who was also the man behind the films "Moulin Rouge!" and "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet."
