Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance book "Twilight" has been translated into Filipino by paperback romance behemoth Precious Pages Corporation (PPC) in June, and was titled "Takipsilim."
The love story of vampire Edward Cullen and all-too-human lover Bella Swan was translated into "Taglish" (Tagalog and English combination) by Armine Rhea Mendoza, one of Precious Pages' best-selling romance writers.
One of the translations read:
"May tatlong bagay na siguradong-sigurado na ako ngayon. Una, si Edward ay isang bampira. Pangalawa, mayroong bahagi sa kanya—at hindi ko alam kung gaano kalakas ang bahaging iyon—na nauuhaw sa aking dugo. At pangatlo, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him." (referring to Bella Swan realizing what has happened after meeting Edward)
"The translation is the brainchild of Precious Pages mastermind Segundo "Jun" Matias Jr. Aside from the over 40 hot-selling romances Precious Pages publishes every month, Matias thought of bringing popular titles in English to the Filipino market," a report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer said.
It also added that the translation took a few months and has sold thousand of copies since its release. It is now on its third printing with just under 10,000 copies in print.
The translation of "Twilight's" sequel, "New Moon" already in the works with a translated title of "Bagong Buwan."
