46 nurses of a hospital in Taguig City claim they were fired for liking a Facebook status of a doctor.
The nurses of Taguig-Pateros District Hospital (TPDH) revealed they were terminated last August, after liking the status message of the volunteer doctor:
"May I express how I feel for a very special hospital--TPDH? We all have freedom and right for expression anyway. Honestly sayang kase disappointing!!! The hospital's heads do not understand each other and each have their own followers. And so, the hospital services suffers (sic). Much more the dignity of all the staff, nurses and doctors and everyone else who work at the hospital."
One of the nurses, identified as Gina, said most of them accepted their termination without knowing the cause, and added TPDH did not issue them certificates of employment.
The volunteer doctor meanwhile said she did not regret posting the status message, and cried foul over the nurses' ouster.
In a statement released by the Taguig City government, it stood on its decision on sacking the nurses, citing "blatant disobedience and disregard of authority protocols," including "sowing intrigues and discontent among the hospital's staff and personnel."
It added the termination is legal as confirmed by the Civil Service Commision, since they are contractual employees and have worked since January last year.
