PH no longer in int'l piracy watch list

The Philippines has been dropped from the international piracy watch list category of the Special 301 Report, even elevating its status to "Special Mention."

The special report of the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) had included the country under its "watch list" for "serious intellectual property rights deficiencies."

In a presscon for his new movie "The Fighting Chefs," Optical Media Board (OMB) Chairman Ronnie Ricketts announced the good news, saying it is "a big thing."

The citation even inspired the actor-director to push an international information campaign against piracy, where he just came from Singapore.

Ronnie is also proud that the "team effort" they made helped the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) exceed its target and grosses P767 million in total sales, the highest accumulated sales in the festival's history.

"The Fighting Chefs," which will be shown in cinemas this March 6, also stars Kapuso celebrity chef Boy Logro in his first movie.
