Ten people were killed while several others were wounded, including the incumbent mayor of a town in Lanao del Norte, in an ambush at their convoy in Iligan City Thursday evening.
Unidentified armed men ambushed the convoy of Nunungan town mayor Abdumalik Manamparan in Brgy. Malaig at around 6:40 p.m. The group was on board a dump truck and were on their way back to Nunungan from another town as they were gunned down.
Among those killed was the mayor's 30-year-old daughter. At least nine others were wounded and were taken to a hospital in Iligan City.
Manamparan confirmed over a local radio that the attack was a "family feud." Police told the mayor, who is seeking a vice mayoral post this May 2013 midterm elections, the identities of the perpetrators but refused to give further details.
Update: As of 1 p.m., two of the wounded died while being treated at the hospital.
