Laguna native Ariella Arida bested 49 other candidates to win the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe title at the coronation night of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the country, which also celebrated 50 years of inception.
Ariella, who also won the Best in Swimsuit award, hails from Alaminos, Laguna and holds a Chemistry degree at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, in the said province.
Ariella, who stands 5'7", is also a ramp model, swimmer, volleyball player, and runner.
Answering a question from one of the judges, PNP chief Allan Purisima: "What lesson in life can women teach men?," she responded:
"One lesson in life that women can teach men is being sensitive. Men are more logical when it comes to decisions. They're rational and straightforward. Unlike women, we use our hearts and we tend to get emotional when we make our decisions. Sensitivity is something that we women can teach to men."
Bea Santiago brought home the Bb. Pilipinas-International title while Nueva Ecija's Joana Cindy Miranda is Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism. Bb. Pilpinas-Supranational went to Johanna Datul of Isabela while Pia Wurtzbach of Cagayan de Oro was named first runner-up.
