Filipino fighter Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista (34-3, 25 KOs) lost to Mexican challenger Jose "Negro" Ramirez (25-3, 15 KOs) in a bout Saturday at the University of Southeastern Philippines gymnasium in Davao City.
Boom Boom lost via split decision to Ramirez, 111-114 Ramirez, 111-114 Ramirez, and 111-114 Bautista, giving the intercontinental featherweight belt to the Mexican.
Three Filipino boxers meanwhile won against their opponents in the undercard rounds. Arthur Villanueva defeated Marco "Singwancha" Demecillo via 12th round unanimous decision, Rocky Fuentes defeated Juan Kantun via 12th round unanimous decision and Lorenzo Villanueva defeated Arief Blader via TKO.
Boom Boom's loss follows the recent fall of Filipino boxing superstars Nonito Donaire (who was defeated last week by Cuban fighter Guillermo Rigondeaux), Brian Viloria (who lost title to Juan Francisco Estrada two weeks ago), and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao (who suffered back-to-back defeats to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez last year).
