LPA near Batangas now tropical depression 'Fabian'

The low pressure area (LPA) west of Batangas has developed into a tropical depression and was named "Fabian," state weather bureau PAGASA said.

As of this afternoon, the center of the tropical depression was estimated at 270 km northwest of Iba, Zambales with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and is forecast to move north northwest at 11 kph.

In the latest advisory by PAGASA, thunderstorm is expected to affect portion of Zambales, Laguna, and Batangas in the next two hours.

"All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods," it said.

"Fabian" has no direct effect to any part of the country but will enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over the western section of Luzon particularly Palawan.
