LPA off Surigao now tropical depression 'Emong'

The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Surigao City has developed into a tropical depression and was named "Emong," PAGASA said Sunday afternoon.

As of 5 p.m., "Emong" was located 370 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar.

It has a maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and moves in a north northwest direction at 9 kph.

PAGASA noted that "Emong" is still far to affect any part of the country. It will however bring rains and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

PAGASA added that the tropical depression is likely to intensify within 24 to 48 hours.

No public storm warning signal has been issued as of the moment.
