July 6, 2016 a holiday in observance of Eid'l Fitr

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared July 6, Wednesday, as a non-working holiday to celebrate Eid'l Fitr, or end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was confirmed by Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella during a press briefing on Monday.

According to Republic Act 9177, the President can announce the final date for the religious holiday, upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

Eid'l Fitr is celebrated for three days and the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, is declared as non-working national holiday.
