A Presidential Security Group (PSG) officer was found dead inside the Malacañang compound Tuesday morning.
A report from GMA News cited PSG commander Brigadier General Lope Dagoy confirming the officer as Major Harim Gonzaga, a member of the operations section.
In another report from Interaksyon, Gonzaga's lifeless body was discovered by his wife at around 9:20 a.m. inside his quarters at the PSG compound, where President Rodrigo Duterte's official residence, Bahay ng Pagbabago, is also located. He had a gunshot to the chest.
A palace official who asked not to be named said Duterte was not there at the time, but presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella could not confirm where Duterte was.
He also said the incident is currently being investigated and the nature of the situation is still something that needs to be verified.
