Something to be proud of

Ma'am Lorraine, the coordinator of the Guidance Unit in our school texted me a couple of days ago something like this:

nsa Mla. Bulletin and picture mo.
chek mo nlng ang today's edition.
u can also check out the school boards.

I texted back and asked her why my picture is on the newspaper. She replied that the Student Coordinating Council and the The Cursor, the official student publication (where I was a news editor) are featured organizations and our school is the featured school in Schools, Colleges, and Universities section of MB.

The group pic where I was included is the pic taken during the official photoshoot conducted a few months back. It was kinda weird for me because I was smiling in the photo while all of them were serious-looking. Lolz!

I was just so proud to be able to see myself in a newspaper. It feels so good that being a part of a school organization makes you appear in a broadsheet. Lolz!

MB's issue where you can see my smiling pic was dated May 27, 2008, in G1 (SCU Bulletin) section.

Mama

Ate Linda's secret

Early morning yesterday when I was walking back home from buying my all-time favorite almusal pansit loglog, I saw Ate Linda holding a newspaper, a tabloid. I just smiled and greeted her "Good Morning Ate" but when I looked back again at what she was holding, I was a little bit shocked. It was not just an ordinary tabloid, it was an adult tabloid!

Acting like I was too liberal with what I saw, I just prompted a joke asking something to her like "Uy, ate ano yan?!" then I laughed. She laughed too but I noticed that she wasn't bothered that I got to see her. Maybe some other guys have already caught her before too. Maybe she's been doing that often, so she doesn't care if anybody's getting on to her because she got caught. Or maybe she's just experimenting - wanting to see what a few other women wanted to see. Or maybe I'm just bashful to ask her - "Ate ba't ka may ganyan, ha?" - but luckily I've got the answer even before I thought of having the guts to ask her.

"Ano bang ginagawa nyong mga lalaki 'pag bumibili kayo ng mga ganitong dyaryo?". Got it, but it took me some 5-second wander to organize my thoughts. Did she merely mean that she bought it to look at some pics there, read the articles there, and eventually, think deeply, fantasize, and...what else? I think so, because that's what guys are doing. Whose retard is buying that kind of pornography just for anything (imagining) not-so-sexual? But I never thought Ate Linda have done that. I mean, getting her caught is some kind of a freaking weird thing.

As we were walking along our street, she told me that she's not the only one doing that thing. She told me that she has buddies who use to collect adult tabloids and magazines. For what purpose?, I asked. A lot, she replied. She even told me that she and her friends read articles together for their 'educational' purposes. What she meant was she was reading for her to discover and then apply the different things about sex. At some point I thought she was phony, but I'd rather believed her because seeing her everyday and knowing just-enough background about her made me realize she's worth believing.

"Pero minsan, alam mo na, ginagamit ko rin yan para...alam mo na...magpalipas ng oras.."

"Haha..talaga Ate?! Kaw talaga.."

The rest of the day was just ordinary, but it started really amazing. Quite an exciting revelation there! Haha...

Note: Linda is pseudo. The rest is factual.

Amazing Charlie

As I was roaming around some entertainment sites, I found a very interesting post about another talented person of Filipino blood that wowed that world. And that was, the 10-year old Charlie Green, who is now a frontrunner on UK's Britain's Got Talent show.

Charlie's mother is hailed from Cebu City.

Now listen to this amazing boy's rendition of Frank Sinatra's Summer Wind.

Happy Birthday, Earth!

Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day, the largest and most widely-celebrated international environmental event. We may not have been aware of this day when we were younger less matured, but I tell you this is the most important holiday the world needs to give a lot of attention to.

The History

Earth Day was first celebrated in the United States when Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed a nationwide environmental protest to thrust the environment onto a national agenda. Across the United States, 20 million people and thousands of local schools and communities participated in the first Earth Day, thus making it the largest organized celebration in the history of the United States.

Why we celebrate

This is the place where we live. We share the same planet, therefore we share the same responsibility of taking care of it. We are faced with a lot of environmental challenges that seem so unnoticeable to many. And now it is our duty to think and act ways on how to solve them. Not only on Earth Day that we should participate with the agenda of saving the Earth, but everyday. Because everyday we breath by Earth's air, we eat by its nature's products, and we live and grow by its environment. If we do not act NOW, we might not notice that tomorrow we'll be doomed by a fugly, not-suitable-place-to-live-in Earth caused by its people's carelesness and lack of concern.

Earth Day in different countries

Since Earth day is a global event, countries have their own ways of celebrating it. But often it is celebrated with the ringing of bells - the bells of peace.

In India, they held a Bicycle Rally to promote nonpolluting forms of transportation. They also held an event where people carried slogans and posters with messages about preserving the nature.

In Kenya, Earth Day is celebrated along with the country's National Tree Planting Day. In one of its Earth Day celebrations, guests and schoolchildren planted 1,000 trees in an endangered forest in order to preserve it and keep the environment clean.

China does celebrate Earth Day with themes. One theme was Protection of Geographic Relics and Scientific Development which highlighted the importance of preserving cultural history and artifacts. They also conducted events which focused on sustainable development and use of natural resources not only in their country but around the world.

In Australia, some groups dressed in animal costumes conducted parades where they carried banners in support of protecting one of the country's wilderness. They also held a "car-less" day where streets in Sydney were blocked off to cars that they just conducted street parties filled with music, parties, and educational activities.

The problems to fix

Certain types of pollution have already created a hole in our atmosphere - this causes the ozone layer, the layer that blocks the harmful ultraviolet rays of heat from the sun, to deplete or become thinner each year. When the ozone layer becomes thinner, more and more ultraviolet rays will reach the Earth's surface which will cause a huge harm to animals, plants, and even us people.

The destruction of natural habitats causes the endangerment, or, in severe cases, extinction of species. Conservation of endangered species is therefore an important part of Earth Day. It is really sad that years from now we won't be able to see mighty Philippine eagles anymore, or the wonderful stingrays and turtles of the seas. So think of ways on how we could save them, speak up, and participate!

Small ways, big impact

Everyday is Earth Day. Everyday we should love the place where we live. Everyday we should take care of it and protect it so the next generation, our sons and daughters, will still breathe the same fresh air that we're breathing, will still experience the satisying natural wonders that we make proud of, and will still see the same wonderful world that we live in. These small ways are very helpful in saving the Earth. If you do at least one of this, KUDOS to you!

- Plant trees. They help the air clean and the surroundings beautiful. Remember that trees and plants emit oxygen, the air that we breathe in. So more trees means more oxygen which means better breathing capacity for us.

- Don't litter. Ang kalat ay ibulsa pansamantala says MMDA. Learn to segregate wastes so it would be easy for the garbage collectors to dispose the non-reusable wastes. Pick up the litter on the sidewalk, streets, and on swiming pools - the very same thing our teacher told us to do when we were in gradeschool.

- Walk or ride a bicycle to school, work, or any place you would want to go to. Do this and you will really feel that you helped the Earth.

- Practice the 3Rs - Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse. The fewer the resources we use, the lesser the things that we throw away. Giving old things a new life means less pressure on important resources all of us will need in the near future.

Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day. It is OUR day.

Nora Neko

Who doesn't know Doraemon, the most popular robotic cat in the world?

Who doesn't get mad about Nobita, the most unlucky and dim-witted kid in town?

Who doesn't like the Doraemon manga, where comedic episodes always bring relief by featuring various significant moral lessons?

Only a few might do. I think.

The solid Kapamilyas MIGHT not be able to watch Doraemon, but I don't care. I'm not a Kapuso either.

All I know is whenever I watch Doraemon, I feel happy and contented that I was not like Nobita. Haha. But I always imagined that I have a robotic friend too, like Doraemon. If I have one, I will use his gadgets effectively. But who would have sent to me Doraemon back in time if I'm not a lazy and bad-at-sports boy like Nobita? What really makes me mad about Nobita is he being lazy and coward. He doesn't make his assignments that's why he always ends up failing on his exams. He is always lectured by his teacher, bullied by Suneo and Damulag, yelled by his Mom, and so many other stupidities. But despite all these, I still believe that in the end, Nobita will change and he will become a better person as the famous happy endings go.

The cast: Nobita, Suneo, Damulag, Shizuka, and Doraemon.

The show is the nth comeback-air in GMA 7, now scheduled weekdays at 9AM.

Note: Nora Neko is the Japanese name for "stray cat", where Doraemon's name originated.

Super human

When I was a child, I've always dreamed of becoming a superhero. When we play games with the other kids in our barangay, we usually role-play with our favorite superheroes we watch in TV. There were Ultraman, Superman, Wonderwoman, Shaider, and my favorite, Green 2 of Bioman. We jumped hurdles, we made improvised watches and belts which were the sources of our power lolz, we beat the villains, we made special finishing moves, and we even had a formation for it. It was really funny remembering the things we used to do, the things that were part of our childhood. I was really a fan of cartoons and superheroes back then. I wished I was one so I can defend the world from evil forces looolz.

True that upon being a superhero with an ordinary strength or an ordinary capability, comes a very big responsibility. He must protect the people from the bad, he must protect the world from destruction, he must do all he can to save Earth. He suffers pain, he suffers emotional distress, he suffers the limitation of living as an ordinary human being.

Now that I'm a grown-up, the desire to be a superhero declined, though in some ways my heart says I still want to be one. But in my mind I know that I don't need to be a superhero. Why? Because there are already a lot. We may not notice it but we see them everyday. They serve us with full spirit and they do all their best to save us, to save the world.

There are our policemen and military, who serve and protect us from threats and danger, the MMDA workforce, who clean the streets to beautify the surrounding, our OFWs, whose remittances boost the economy, the construction workers, who build tall skycrapers that are headquarters for businesses, the nurses and doctors, who cure and help sick people, the NGO volunteers and charity people, who passionately involve themselves to help others, the teachers, who spend their days imparting knowledge to students that in the future will help the country, the lawyers, accountants, artists, IT people, businessmen, engineers, writers, architects, whose minds help in building and shaping the future of our country.

Someday, maybe several months from now, I will become a hero too.

Like this! ROFLOL!

My favorite posts of my blogger friends

Just thought of something new to post. And here it is. Haha.

Been like 7 months since I blogged here at Blogspot, and since then, I've gained and known a lot of friends. Through reading their blogs I've had an idea of what they are, how they do, their perspective on things, and etc. Some of their posts are funny, some are dramatic, and some needs a little concern to be considered...logical, and, relevant. :D

Now I'm putting here my favorite posts of all my Blogger friends. I'll include the link (of course!) and I'll explain why that post of him/her has become my favorite.

Ely's

For Ely, I have three (3) favorite posts.

1.) Boy Suplado
2.) Who's Who? and
3.) After all, work should be fun

This guy is really good in writing. He always puts up his interest on making posts that's why people are eager to read his works.

Boy Suplado is his, really, first post that I can't help but laughing about. The last customer is sooo makulit, haha. She can't even identify where to find a tab or where to point to so she kept on asking right or left. Haha! The result? A monstrous Ely emerged. The lesson? There's no such thing as double right click. Haha!

Who's Who is a post about look-alike celebrities. Really funny. I think the pair that showed the most resemblance was Doris Bigornia and Susan Enriquez. Haha. Makes sense?

Haha! To see a different Ely, CLick my 3rd favorite post of him. Sayang lang because he wasn't able to show his gown during their Flores de Mayo. Haha! This post also gave me idea on how work should be. AFter all, it should be fun. True. Always true. I recalled during my first weeks at Sykes (Ely's company too) as an intern, I thought fun would be of minimal concern, because since I was assigned as a programmer, I have to focus on things, to concentrate and learn. But it's really not focusing or learning that has satisfied me. It's the fun on doing it. If you're too serious on your work, you'll end up losyang. That's true. That's one of the virtues I've learned on my 7-week stay at Sykes. Enjoy what you're doing, but always remember to balance things. Set your priorities and you'll never regret on your decisions. That's proven and tested. :-)

Chio's

1.) Now that you are leaving

Probably Chio's longest post (pics credited), this entry reminded me of one virtue that I will always remember. It is also the last line of his post.

Don't cry because you think it's over, smile because it happened...

But I still hate goodbyes! Especially long goodbyes... :"(

Billy's

1.) Warp Us!

Pictures are really funny. Faces of Billy's classmates were being transformed into aliens, gobblers, insects, and even professors! lol. By just adjusting some settings on his K610i phone, he was able to shoot his classmates' faces and turn them into out-of-this world beings. Haha!

Rowjie's

1.) Mga Pwede Pang Gawan ng Remake sa TV

Haha. This post is cool. Due to the immense remakes of shows on Philippine TV, Rowjie was able to list down the 'possible' shows that might be seen again on TV, but in a humourous manner, since the post was files under the topak category. Haha! Imagine, Mojacko and Doraemon on their dramatic roles? Hahaha.

2.) Points of View Ep.6: Do you believe in 'love at first sight'?

I've had encountered several arguings about this "very common question". Although this post was short, Rowjie was able to interpret his side about the matter. Yes, I believe too that a person falls in love with someone during their his/her sight, mainly because of that someone's physical features. But sometimes, "it’s just a feeling you can’t understand" upon seeing someone for the very first time that makes you consider it as 'love at first sight'. In the end, Rowjie stated that trust is one value that keeps a meaningful relationship.

Russ'

As I've always said, Russ for me is one of the best blogger/writer I've known. I like his poems, I like his posts, his concepts, and ideas on things. But he has become quite busy these days: fewer posts. Hope to read and know more from you soon, bud!

Anyway, here are my favorite posts of him: (can i include all? :-D)

1.) Unravel

I cannot exactly state why but when I read this poem, I felt sadness and happiness at the same time. Good writers actually bring out mixed emotions to their readers.

2.) Pa

Huhuhu..this post was really a sad one. One of the readers left a comment: "No matter how hard you and I try to present ourselves as "human" as we could be to our fathers, yet it seems we shall never be good enough".

I remember my dad here, who, sometimes, doesn't recognize things I achieve, things that should make him proud but for some reasons which I can't figure out what, make him not.

Above all, fathers will always remain as fathers. No matter how good or bad they are.

3.) Post

One of Russ' best post I suppose. Read this! You'll be amazed. :)

McRey's

Arajaya's creator has become one of the humorous blogger in town! McRey, who is also my school mate and co-editor at our school's publication, made his posts really funny and catchy, though it may also be considered explicitly Rated R lolz.

1.) Longest Post so far??? Try mo basahin...nyahaha!

One lesson I learned: There are A LOT of things that human can't do but surely animals can. :D

2.) BICTHES? Whatever!

McRey created three types of bitches: the first-class, middle-class, and common bitches. The cool thing is, he has written this article in a very funny manner.

JL's

1.) the story of the INVERTED

This article is actually a story written by JL for his high school publication. He envisioned what would happen to his and his classmates' future ten years from then. I missed my high school friends when I read this post. :(

Pia's

1.) reminiscing my highschool life.

Another post which made me miss my high school - everything about it - more!

(to be continued...)
