Maxene Magalona, copying Anne Curtis?

Maxene Magalona sang the Eraserheads classic "Pare Ko" with brother Frank in Party Pilipinas on January 29. Netizens criticized the way she sang it, some even tweeted she "murdered" the song. Some also said she is no Anne Curtis, who is known to be proud of singing songs, though she hardly hits the right key. Nevertheless, Anne proved that it doesn't take one to be a great singer to hold a jam-packed concert in Smart Araneta Coliseum last night. (Click here to see some photos)

But seriously, does Maxene deserve to get all the bashing she gets? She just sang, and "pumiyok". But c'mon guys, we all know she isn't a SINGER, so why do we have to bash her? At least she tried and enjoyed her performance. I think that's what mattered.

People also tell Maxene that she isn't an Anne Curtis. Some said "Anne Curtis is enough". However, Anne defended Maxene:

They're friends! So people should stop comparing her to Anne Curtis. They're both pretty tough.

Is it the end for 'Showtime'?

After the end of two ABS-CBN shows "Happy Yipee Yehey" (February 4) and "E-Live" (January 28), will "Showtime" be next?

The late morning show is rumored to go off air after the hosts made the show's Saturday episode last January 28 a "Thanksgiving Day" for the viewers and supporters.

The hosts, composed of Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Vice Ganda, Billy Crawford, Karylle, Kim Atienza, Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz, were all emotional as they thanked the staff and fans for their continued patronage of the show, which run for two years and three months.

The hosts also gave their tribute performances.

In an ABS-CBN press release, it said "This Monday (January 30) at 11:30 am, ABS-CBN presents its first-ever locally produced drama on a noontime slot, "Mundo Man ay Magunaw," a compelling family drama featuring a formidable ensemble cast of young and seasoned actors that include Empress Schuck, Nikki Gil, Ejay Falcon, Sylvia Sanchez, Allan Paule, Pinky Amador, Jason Gainza, Dianne Medina, Alex Castro Tessie Tomas, and Eula Valdes."

Also starting January 30, Kapamilya Blockbuster will be back and will air before "Mundo Man ay Magunaw." Both shows will take over the original time slot of "Showtime."

Will show time be finally saying goodbye? Hmmm.. I guess it will just replace the axed "Happy Yipee Yehey", which is in the noontime timeslot. If it does, the noontime battle will be between Showtime and Eat Bulaga. Will the first beat the latter in the ratings game?

Jose and Wally concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum!

UPDATE: The concert was a huge success! Jam-packed Smart Araneta! Check out some photos HERE.

Comedians and Eat Bulaga! hosts Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola were surprised of "Bossing" Vic Sotto's announcement after their EB Dabarkads concert on Saturday, January 28. Bossing, who served as the two's "manager" changed the title card from (not the exact words) "Jose and Wally Concert: January 28, 2012 Eat Bulaga Studio" to "Jose and Wally Concert: March 2, 2012 Smart Araneta Coliseum".

Wow! As in wow! They are so lucky! Wally was teary-eyed when the camera focused him.

So, are you watching? I'm sure this is gonna be fun. Two of the funniest comedians in the longest-running noontime show now bring happiness to the premiere concert location of the country.

It became an instant trending topic on Twitter, too.

TicketNet has released today, February 1, details of the ticket prices for the concert. Click here to find out.

Pregnant orangutan protects her daughter as Borneo hunters move in to kill

Orangutans are being haunted in Borneo because business companies think they are "pests" to the palm oil plantations. Deforestation had become their solution to increase their revenues, thus gave major threat to the apes - a loss of their habitat. A brutal form of reducing their numbers has emerged in the recent years - direct slaughter.

As bounty hunters search for the orangutans to kill, a pregnant orangutan mother was pictured hugging her daughter tight, her only way to protect her from danger.

Thanks to the team from Britain, an international animal rescue group Four Paws who arrived in time to save them. The apes were moved to a safe area and released back into the wild.

Deforestation in the Indonesian side of Borneo, which is shared with Malaysia, has dramatically reduced orangutans numbers from 250,000 to 50,000 just over in the last few decades.

Companies are reported to be giving out $110 for each orangutan killed in the palm oil plantations. Graves and bones of the poor apes were found by investigators last September. What a merciful and shameless act!

British Four Paws said the killing of orangutans is illegal in Indonesia, but law lacks enforcement.

Facebook will end on March 15, 2012

Of course, not true!

Why would Mark Zuckerberg shut down the site that generates him billions?

The clever guys from Weekly World News, a satirical/humor/supernatural/paranormal and fictional news site, brought another scoop to the highest level.

Here's the news:

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March of 2012. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th of next year, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts. That gives users (and Facebook addicts) a year to adjust to life without Facebook.

“After March 15th, 2012 the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back after Facebook goes out of business.”

Zuckerberg said the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.

“I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

Some Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news.

“What am I going to do without Facebook?” said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. “My life revolves around it. I’m on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time?”

However, parents across the country have been experiencing a long anticipated sense of relief.

“I’m glad the Facebook nightmare is over,” said Jon Guttari, a single parent from Detroit. “Now my teenager’s face won’t be glued to a computer screen all day. Maybe I can even have a conversation with her.”

Those in the financial industry are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion.

But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He said he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe.

“I don’t care about the money,” said Zuckerberg. “I just want my old life back.”

The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th, 2012. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased.

So there, as soon as the SOPA and PIPA isn't approved in the US yet, then we shouldn't worry about updating our profile and living lives in Facebook.

Boysen KNOxOUT Project 'makes life better' along EDSA

We all know that EDSA is one of the busiest, most traffic-congested roads in Metro Manila. And thousands of vehicles that pass through it generate more and more air pollution which is proven to bring harm to our health.

The good guys from Boysen started a bright idea to at least lessen air pollution in the longest avenue in Metro Manila.

The Boysen KNOxOUT Project aims to make life better along EDSA by featuring artworks in the walls of the roads by using a breakthrough paint that contains the new CrystalActiv technology, which uses titanium oxide. This material is activated when exposed to sufficient energy like sunlight or ambient light to create a film that neutralizes any pollutants like NOx (nitrogen oxide) and SOx (sulfur oxide) that come into contact with it.

As taken from its official Facebook page:

The Boysen KNOxOUT Project: EDSA is a large-scale urban renewal project that challenges the odds against making life better along EDSA, the longest and one of the most traffic-congested avenues in Metro Manila.

This massive endeavor will involve 11 internationally circulating artists who will conceptualize eight massive artworks in a number of areas within the 24 kilometer length of EDSA.

The project will use Boysen KNOxOUT, a breakthrough paint that contains the new CrystalActiv technology, which uses titanium oxide. This material is activated when exposed to sufficient energy like sunlight or ambient light to create a film that neutralizes any pollutants like NOx (nitrogen oxide) and SOx (sulfur oxide) that come into contact with it. Pollutants are converted into less harmful substances. The by-products of this conversion are negligible amounts of carbon dioxide and water.

In effect, the Boysen KNOxOUT Project: EDSA will perform two duties that the city is clamoring for – an unprecedented public art project that will help transform EDSA as a showcase for art, and a huge functional piece that aids in neutralizing the air pollution in Metro Manila’s main artery.

And some of the pics:

More paintings, more fun. It's truly more fun in the Philippines with these efforts to save the environment!

Symantec advises customers to disable software

Computer security firm Symantec has advised its customers to disable one of its products, in time for the hacker's theft to the underlying code that powers the software.

Symantec said the theft occurred in 2006, compromising 2006-era version of Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, Norton Internet Security and Norton SystemWorks. Experts warned that the theft of the code behind the remote access package pcAnywhere could allow malicious users to gain complete access to systems and data.

The company recommended in an online statement to disable the product until they release a "final set of software updates that resolve current known vulnerability risks". Earlier, Symantec said customers need no additional actions in light of the breach.

Experts say that the incident was more of a business threat, rather than anything else. Symantec may face potential loss of market share and loss of trust from its customers.

In the newly released security advisory, Symantec offers suggestions for tightening security in light of the code theft. Ira Victor, a security expert with Data Clone Labs in Nevada suggests four additional steps to greater protection:

1. Do not use a "suite" of security protection from any one firm. A mixture of best of breed security is more secure.

2. Usernames and passwords alone are not enough protection for remote access. A single-use password system makes unauthorized remote access exponentially harder for cybercriminals.

3. Do not run computers in "Administrator" mode. Run systems in "User mode" so that malware does not install automatically.

4. Businesses should deploy application "whitelisting." This will prevent unauthorized malware from running on computers.
